Answers To Your Questions Below

How far in advance can I reserve a self storage unit?
Our self storage units are first come, first serve; however, you can secure an available self storage unit anytime with the proper payment. We may also temporarily hold self storage units for those who set a specific appointment date and time in the very near future.

Do I have to sign a lease, or can I rent a self storage unit on a month-to- month basis?
Our leases are on a month to month basis and do require a signature upon renting a self storage unit.

What do I need to do to get a self storage unit today?
1. Payment–the $30 administrative fee and your first month's (prorated) rent
2. A signed month-to-month rental agreement
3. A valid ID or driver's license
4. A working phone number, email address, and a current mailing address
5. A cylinder lock to secure your self storage unit (included with the rental)

What are the days and hours that I may access my self storage unit?
You will have access to the property from 6 am to 10 pm every day of the year using your own personalized keypad entry code.  Our gate access is available 365 days a year, seven days a week. The gate will not open after 10 pm so please be out on time.  You will receive a unique code to access the gate and the climate controlled self storage unit building doors (if applicable).

Can I rent the self storage unit mid-month? Do you prorate?
You can rent a self storage unit anytime at Briarcliff Storage. We prorate the first month’s rent to reflect the day that you begin renting. We do not prorate the last month's rent. If you need to move out before the end of the month or pay for the next month to stay a few extra days, please plan to adjust accordingly.

Do you require insurance on the contents of my self storage unit?
Like your car, house, and all your valued possessions, insurance is required for the items you store with us. You are responsible for the items that you store with us at Briarcliff Storage, and insurance/protection for your stored belongings is required. For those without insurance/protection coverage, or if you’re looking for a little more protection, affordable storage protection is available through Briarcliff Storage. Our protection plan requires $100 deductible and is available in 3 protection levels to choose from. Check out our Features Page.

How do I make a payment?
• Auto Pay – we run your credit card at the beginning of each new rental period (recommended for no late fee)
• You can pay at the Briarcliff Storage office (cash, check, or credit card).
• Pay Bill online at www.briarcliffstorageunits.com

When is my rental fee due?
Payment is due the first day of each month.  If we have not received your payment by the 5th day of the month, your gate access will be denied, as well as access to your space.  A late fee of $20 will be charged if not paid by the 10th day of the month.  A lien/auction fee of $100 will be added after 32 days past due, and we will proceed with the auction process.

What may I store?
You are not allowed to store hazardous materials in the self storage units.  This includes flammable, toxic, explosives, corrosives, or poisons. Additionally, no food items, including animal feed, should be stored in your self storage unit.  The storage of illegal substances is prohibited. If we suspect that you are storing any of these items, you may be asked to vacate. In the case of illegal materials, authorities could be notified as well.

What is the size of your entry doors into the climate controlled building?
45" wide by 83" tall

Does Briarcliff Storage provide locks? Do you keep a key to my self storage unit?
A lock is included with your administrative fee at sign up. No one else has a key to that lock – just you. Cylinder locks are usually best purchased at our locations because the versions we sell are customized for our facilities. Though we recommend ours, you are welcome to use your own long mill cylinder lock. Cylinder locks are more trusted because they fit tightly into the door itself to eliminate any raised area that can be tampered with. They are housed internally within the self storage unit, similar to front door locks in your house or apartment. These cannot be cut, as the locks don’t stick out of the self storage unit door. Like disc locks, they are also strike-proof, drill-proof and pick-proof. We also sell a variety of moving, packing and storage supplies.

What’s the difference between an indoor self storage unit (climate controlled) and an outdoor (drive up) self storage storage unit in Oak Ridge TN?
Indoor self storage units are heated and cooled (sometimes called climate control), are protected from the elements and have wide hallways to move in. This allows your moving items to be stored as if they were still inside your home or office. All our interior self storage units provide a much higher quality of storage than your shed or attic might. Using our heated & cooled climate controlled self storage units is almost like leaving your items right at home!  Outdoor drive up self storage units offer the convenience of drive-up access.  These self
storage units have no temperature or humidity control. Briarcliff Storage Units offers both types of self storage units in Oak Ridge TN.

Do you offer boat storage, car storage, or RV parking?
Sorry, we do not have outdoor parking for boat storage, car storage, RV parking or other vehicles. Our parking and common areas are limited and need to be available for temporary parking or unloading to customers with a self storage unit.

Can I leave my vehicle parked in the lot?
If you are physically on the property, your vehicle can be parked inside our fence or in the parking lot. You may not leave your vehicle unattended or overnight; unattended vehicles, including boats or recreational vehicles, may be booted and/or towed at the owner's expense.

Is the self storage unit big enough for my boat or RV?
We have self storage units in different sizes, and some are big enough to store a car or boat.  A typical car requires a 10×20 self storage unit. Boat trailers will often be to big.

Do you have trucks available to rent for moving?
No we do not offer rental trucks.

What Kind of Security Do You Provide?

What is the best way to pack my belongings in storage correctly?

  •  Determine whether the goods you are storing will be better protected by placing them in boxes, totes, or other containers. You may need to purchase specialized boxes and other materials to protect your items during the move and while they are stowed away.
  • Thoroughly clean, disinfect and dry refrigerators, freezers, stoves and other appliances. Appliances with doors can be stored with the door slightly open, and some can be stacked on top of each other.
  • Prevent rust by wiping down all types of metal surfaces before storing. Use a few drops of machine oil to lightly coat these items for preventing rust and possible deterioration.
  • Store clothing on hangers before folding them into cartons. Make sure all drapes, curtains, linens and clothing items are washed and dry, or dry cleaned to avoid attracting pests.
  • Use bubble wrap and other materials when storing dishes and glassware. Pack similar items in the same box and fill empty spaces with packing peanuts, bubble wrap or newspaper.
  • Stack lightweight chairs “seat to seat”, but avoid stacking other types of furniture on top of each other. Cover all upholstery with light cotton dust covers.
  • Holiday decorations can be stored in their original cartons. Wrap glass ornaments and other delicate items in bubble wrap or newspaper before storing in boxes or totes.
  • CDs, tapes, records and other music items can be stored in boxes or airtight cartons to prevent damage.
  • Cover computer screens and large television screens with dust covers and wrap in bubble wrap if you are storing these items next to furniture and other equipment.
  • Pack all books, files, and documents flat, and use bubble wrap or newspaper to fill any empty spaces in the boxes or totes.
  • Disassemble furniture and place pieces on a corrugated cardboard mat or plastic sheet before placing them on a pallet.
  • Wrap lamp bases in padding and store the lamp shade and base separately.
  • Be sure to clean and dry all electrical equipment before storing.

What types of things are prohibited to store in my storage unit?

Even though you alone control access to your storage space, there are some items that cannot be stored in your unit at any time. These include:

  • Live animals
  • Perishables
  • Liquids
  • Explosives
  • Flammable liquids and fuels
  • Toxic materials
  • Any items that need to be in a controlled environment

Are the unit sizes approximate for comparison purposes only?

Customers should inspect the actual unit/space to be rented before signing a rental agreement and should base the decision to rent on the inspection of the unit/space and not on the advertised size.
